The workshops were entitled "The Art of Dealing with People of Determination in the Work Environment" and were held in cooperation with the Department of Community Development and the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination in order to raise the community's career awareness about the rights of people of determination in various fields.
Abu Dhabi, 17 March / WAM: The Human Resources Authority in Abu Dhabi has organized a series of virtual workshops for the "colleagues of determination" initiative, which comes within the pillar of the inclusive employment policy "one of the initiatives of the employment pillar in the Abu Dhabi Strategy for People of Determination". The workshops were entitled "The Art of Dealing with People of Determination in the Work Environment" and were held in cooperation with the Department of Community Development and the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination in order to raise the community's career awareness about the rights of people of determination in various fields.
The organization of the workshop was held in order to educate government employees, employers and government companies of the correct practices in dealing with fellow employees of determination, and the importance of institutional cooperation in preparing the incubating work environment by providing tools and applying appropriate practices to enable this category of employees to perform their work comfortably, and carry out their job duties with high productivity, in a manner that ensures the satisfaction, happiness and well-being of this category of society.
Her Excellency Alia Abdullah Al Mazrouei, Director General of the Human Resources Authority said that the Authority is leading the Inclusive Employment Program for People of Determination project as a government initiative which idea depends on the People of Determination Strategy 2020-2024, on the ground that the Policy and Institutional Development Sector is responsible in the Authority for the inclusive employment of People of Determination pillar.
She also added that the program constitutes an ideal platform to enrich the knowledge of employees and enhance the policy of inclusive employment, and comes as a continuation of the efforts made by the Authority in advancing the organization of assisted employment services for people of determination, enhancing the capabilities of human resources and raising their competencies to employ them in the comprehensive development process applied by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Al Mazrouei commended the efforts of the Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi and the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination in the great cooperation and tangible support to bring this initiative into implementation and success through the supportive work teams from the cooperating parties in the project.
His Excellency Hamad Al-Shibli, Director of Policy and Institutional Development Sector emphasized the role of the Authority and its responsibility through initiative and institutional partnership in developing an inclusive and empowering society for People of Determination. He said: We are confident that these workshops will achieve the expected outcomes and educate the Abu Dhabi Government employees on the concepts of dealing with their colleagues of determination and to provide them with the necessary support when needed by adopting and implementing practices that help their colleagues of determination to perform their work requirements in an optimal manner, and thus creating a stimulating, enabling, incubating and supportive work environment for people of determination.
He added that the organization of the workshops came from the belief of the Authority that Human Resources of all abilities and categories are the cornerstone and one of the most important components of growth, achievement and success in any institution, and that the human element is the main driver of the wheel of economic development in all plans and projects of the Emirate.
Her Excellency Dr. Bushra Al Mulla, Executive Director of the Community Development Sector at the Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi, affirmed the keenness of the Department on the fruitful cooperation with the partners participating in the Abu Dhabi Strategy for People of Determination by implementing various initiatives that contribute to strengthening the social sector in general and providing a decent life for all members of society and achieving the main objective of our mission to form the nucleus of a tolerant and incubating society for all groups, which makes the Emirate of Abu Dhabi an inclusive and prepared city for people of determination by transforming to the perspective of social disability and supportive of the right of people of determination, as they are the basis for the progress and development of society.
Al Mulla praised the "colleagues of determination" initiative launched by the Human Resources Authority by implementing a series of awareness lectures directed to the Abu Dhabi Government’s employees, which contribute to strengthening and educating the government employee through the art of dealing and communicating with people of determination in the work environment, especially that these workshops highlight multiple pillars dealing with the concept of disability and its types and how to deal and communicate with people of determination to identify their needs in order to reach a friendly and positive work environment and ensure the satisfaction, happiness and well-being of this group in society.
Mr. Asaad Hawass, Advisor of Rehabilitation and Employment at the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, said that this initiative aims to create a positive and stimulating work environment for people of determination, and provide conditions that ensure their security and health safety, as well as to ensure their protection from various forms of exploitation, in which the recruitment process is actual and practical and not just assimilation, pointing out that the initiative guarantees the right to work for people of determination on an equal basis with others, and guarantees them access to equal work opportunities in a manner that achieves their enjoyment of the highest degree of justice, equity and equality with their peers of ordinary individuals.
The pillars of implemented workshops focused on clarifying the concept of disability and its categories to distinguish between them and identifying the needs of each group separately, and thus enabling the participants to learn about methods of providing support and assistance to people of determination. There are developmental disabilities represented in mental disability, autism spectrum disorder, and there are sensory disabilities represented in auditory or visual and sometimes both. There are also physical disabilities and secondary disabilities represented in speech and language disorders, emotional disability, learning difficulties and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
The workshops provided detailed instructions on how to deal with people of determination based on the categories of disability, and focused on the importance of achieving justice and equality for people of determination when providing services and organizing various activities and the importance of environmental preparation and adherence to its standards in the workplace at entrances, corridors, elevators, toilets and offices, and when using the guidance system or evacuation and enabling the authorities to modify the physical and social environment for work in line with the requirements of the categories of people of determination to create a friendly and positive work environment for them.
